There isn't a thought about Vets Mommie (as Aaron says) that doesn't bring a smile to my face that fills my heart with love and admiration. I remember just watching her as she watched everyone around her at the lake - she was always busy - the wheels were always turning. I've known Aina since some of my first memories as a child. I didn't know her real name until I was in my early 30's. Growing up I always called her "Vets Mommie" and didn't realize that it was Veces Mami until Kris corrected me in my late 20's. I still probably have it wrong; my ignorance is boundless. I was introduced to Aina about fifty years ago by her son Valdis. Valdis and I became best friends in High School. He introduced me to his mom one of the first times he took me home. She looked me up one side and down the other, shook her head, shrugged her shoulders, and then with a twinkle in her eye said something in Latvian to Valdis. He responded in Latvian, a conversation ensued, and then they both laughed. Not having a clue, I just stood there smiling. Later Valdis confided that...
