My family came to the USA when I was three years old (they were from Latvia ,a country taken over by the Russians). My father and mother knew nothing about baseball or any other American sport. We lived on a farm in Ohio for a brief time and moved to Detroit. Wanting to be a real American, I started paying attention to sports. By the the time I was ten I was in love with the Detroit Tigers. My wonderful Dad got tickets for a night game. As we (Mom, Dad and me) walked up the ramps and...

Being a big White Sox fan , we grew to know Al Kaline as a Sox Killer . Just like we grew to know Albert Pujols as a Cub Killer . Long throw , right at the front of the base .... grab some bench Melton . In those times in the 70's , we could wait around for players coming out in the parking lot and Big Al stopped for a second to shake our hands . He...

I was 10 yrs old when in 1968 the Tigers were in a pennant race. Setting in Tiger stadium right field I saw Al thro a runner out from deeeep right field. His strike to Bill Freehand was only 4 feet high the 220 feet to the plate!!! I see it soo clear today. And a role model up with Michael Jordan and Hal Ripken... loved you Al. Must ov been Christian and see u in heaven

Please accept my sincere condolences to the Kaline Family, May the God of all comfort bless your hearts with his loving kindness and peace as He strengthens you to cope as each difficult day passes. Cherish the memories.

As we were entering Briggs Stadium (yes, I am that old!), the entrance ramp overlooked the players parking lot, and I stood incessantly waiting to see the players, especially Al, leave the ballpark. My favorite color is blue, and one year I saw that Al had a pink Cadillac. I tried so very hard, for so long, to make pink my favorite color! It...
