Alfred Lewis "Al" Langley, 72, resident of 106 Colonial Drive, husband of Jean Fender Langley, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at his home. Born November 7, 1941, in Troy, he was a son of the late Dewey Hobson and Mary Alexandria Browne Langley. He was a 1960 graduate of McCormick High School and also a graduate of the Greenwood College of Commerce. Mr. Langley was a Veteran of the US Army Reserves. Formerly employed by Town & Country Real Estate and Greenwood Savings and Loan, he was retired from the Greenwood Branch of AgSouth, where he served as office manager. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, was active in the Church Mission Program and was Secretary/Treasurer of the Charles Poore Sunday School Class. Al was devoted to his entire family, especially his son and grandson and was an avid outdoorsman. Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, Christopher L. (Mary Beth) Langley of Honea Path; a grandson, Andrew L. Langley of Honea Path; two brothers, John M. (Barbara) Langley of McCormick and Edwin L. (Doris) Langley of Greenwood; three sisters, Carolyn L. Strom of McCormick, Julia E. Cummings of Columbia and Laura A. (Jimmy) Chandler of Greenwood. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mark United Methodist Church. with Rev. Carl Hunsucker and Rev. Ryan Spurrier officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bradley Fender, Greg McDaniel, Griffin Fender, Steve Langley, David Hannah and Frank Hill. Honorary escort will be members of the Charles Poore Sunday School Class. The family is at the home in Belle Meade and will receive friends in the church social hall from 1 to 2 Friday afternoon and immediately following the graveside service.
