I have enjoyed the privilege of knowing Alan since he was a youngster and had the opportunity to work with him briefly. He was one of the brightest and nicest people I have ever known. The world is considerably less without him.

I'm glad I had the pleasure of working together with you Alan. You were a bright guy and a shining light that brought a lot of fun into the team. You made the world you left a little better for your time and I'll miss not having the opportunity to talk to you again. Condolences to the family and friends. Rest in Peace Mr Carrol.

I'm devastated at our loss, Alan has been a friend, a co-worker (Apache Open Source), a mentor and an inspiration to me for many years. We still had so many things to do together... My deepest condolences to Susan and the children, to all of Alan's family, and his many, many friends.

Alan also took the time to help my Grandson connect to their server so he could play with Alan and kids from home. To say I'm shocked that he's gone so soon is an...
