Michael Sherman remembers his brother Alan as "bigger than life ... a protective brother, a loving father, tough as nails." "He was a Marine," Michael Sherman said to more than 200 people crowded into the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels on the Fourth of July to say farewell. "He lived that life top to bottom." Sherman, of Wanamassa, N.J., was serving his second tour of duty in the Middle East when he was killed on June 29 in eastern Iraq by a roadside bomb. Sherman, 36, was based in Folsom, Pa. When not on active duty, Sherman was a licensed practical nurse, working at a senior citizens'' home, said his ex-wife, Dolores Sherman. He is survived by two sons, Joshua, 10, and Logan, 7. Michael Sherman said his brother provided something for the boys _ "He left them his honorable name, as a hero and as a loving father."

Not sure what to say?

It was an honor to serve with you Al. I think of you often and I know we´ll all meet again. Guarding the Gates of Heaven.

Today I went back to visit you for the first time since you were laid to rest in 2004! I didnt want to go back! Cause I felt it only makes it real that your never coming back and you were just still overseas! I miss you dearly! Not a Memorial day, your birthday, the anniversary of your passing and especially the 4th of July do I not think about you and hold you close to my heart! I love you Alan Sherman.. I always wonder what could've been! Keep smiling, Donna
