Alan Diamond Obituary

Alan S. Diamond, a retired local businessman, restaurant executive and mentor to many young New Orleanians through his nonprofit affiliations, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, Jan. 30 after a brief illness. He was 68. A native of Greenwood, Mississippi, Alan moved to New Orleans right after graduating from the University of Alabama to work at the first newly opened Wendy's Restaurants in New Orleans. He rose through the ranks at Wendy's to become head of operations for all local Wendy's franchises. He later served in a similar capacity at Corky's Barbecue in Metairie. Although a success in his professional endeavors, Alan's passion was his dedication to helping young people as a volunteer mentor at various local nonprofits, including Boys & Girls Clubs, Café Reconcile and others. Alan was also active in Touro Synagogue and served on its board of directors. Alan loved sports, particularly college football and basketball, the New Orleans Saints, and all things University of Alabama, his beloved alma mater. He also loved all kinds of music. He attended many Jazz Fests and concerts. At the young age of 39, Alan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which he fought bravely for the rest of his life. Soon after Hurricane Katrina, at the age of 52, Alan became wheelchair bound, but the smile that was his hallmark never left his face. Friends and relatives knew Alan as one of the strongest, most kind-hearted and courageous men they had ever met. "He lifted us all by his warm smile, his generosity of spirit, his wisdom and his warmth," said one friend. "He reminded us all of the importance of family, friendship, perseverance and love. He was a deep pool of calm water, and everyone who spent time with Alan came away a better person for having known him." He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Laurie Silverstein Diamond; his daughters Meredith Diamond DuBos (Brandin) of New Orleans and Lindsay Diamond Jardine (Charlie) of London, England; sister Roslyn Diamond Clark (Charles) of Memphis, TN; brother Richard Diamond (Shelley) of Destin, FL; caregiver Killean Holley of New Orleans; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Louise Rogers Diamond; and older brother Samuel "Sam" Diamond of Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will begin at 11a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Touro Synagogue, 4238 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans. A celebration of his life will follow the service. Lake Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send donations "In memory of Alan Diamond" to the National MS Society, nationalmssociety.org or to MD Anderson Cancer Center, mdanderson.org/gifts (Designation: Various Donors for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma/ VARACC).

Laurie there are no words to describe how heartbreaking it is to learn of Alan's passing. Alan was one of Mike's dearest friends and the day you both came to meet Julian & I was one of the most beautiful days ever.. filled with loving memories.
Both these guys had a tremendous adoration for each other and as Mike would always say Alan was a 'class act'.
Julian & I are keeping you in our prayers and of course Mike does not understand but one day they'll meet each other again.
Love Always.

Omg, Laurie, I am SO SORRY! I´ve been sick with Covid and am just hearing about Alan via a phone call from Lindsay. I would absolutely have been at the service. I was just loving all of your beautiful wedding photos, and Alan looked really great! He was one of the loveliest men ever. And I knew him from his first week with Wendy´s.... Sending hugs and kisses and so much love! He will be so sorely missed. I´m so thrilled for you all that he was ok through all wedding events. Let´s get together soon for an actual hug. If I can help in any way with anything, please don´t hesitate to call on me. Love to you and your girls, Nancy

Dear Diamond Family,
So sorry for you loss of Alan, especially so at such a young age. I remember Alan as one of the area operational managers at Wendy's of New Orleans back around 1979 while I was a teen working there! Those were fun days and Alan was apart of it. He was always kind and when work time allowed it, funny. He took his job seriously, cared about his family, customers, staff and quality! He was always willing to teach the crew on his visits to coach management. I also ran into him on occasion while at Corky's BBQ and it was always great to see him. I am saddened to hear of his illness and passing. May he rest in peace.

Mr.Al was my boss at Corkys bbq restaurant. I worked there through high school/college and until they closed the doors for good. Mr.Al was such an amazing man that inspired so many of us. He believed in me at times I didn´t. He always reminded me of who I am and all I could do in life. Mr.Al was like a father to many of us who needed guidance . He is the reason I work hard in every job I encounter and remain professional in every task I face. He was a gentle giving soul that made everyone smile. I would always tell him how lucky his family was to have such a great father. Mr.Al inspired and uplifted so many young people and mentored us in ways we needed and in return we always remained loyal to him. Mr.Al was a gem in this world that we will truly miss. I pray for his family and loved ones to have peace and support during these times. I will never forget this amazing man. If I am able to touch as many souls as he did then I truly have lived. Thank you Mr.Al for simply giving us the privilege to experience you on this earth. May you continue to watch over us. To his family I am extremely sorry for your loss and I pray God continues to walk with you all during this time. Mr.Al I will miss you so much. God bless.
