Alan Joseph Eade

TIMONIUM, Md. - On April 13, 2025, Alan Joseph Eade passed away at the age of 77.

He was the beloved husband of Connie Duff; devoted father to Lauren Smith (Matthew Smith), Ethan Eade (Louisa Michaels), and Katherine Guenoun (Rafael Guenoun); cherished Giddee (grandfather) to Leon, Isabella, Evelyn, Ezra, Elliott, Axel, and Julian; dear brother of Richard Eade (Carol Eade), Valerie Eade, David Eade (Betsy Eade), Sharon Mikolanis (Michael Mkolanis), and nephew of Tina Leone. He was preceded in death by his sister Diane Eade (Jim Greer) and his parents Joseph Eade and Mary Eade.

Born in Olean, N.Y., Alan spent an idyllic childhood in a close-knit Lebanese community. He graduated from Olean High School as valedictorian of his class and remained in close touch with many of his classmates. Alan maintained an active interest in Olean, making many trips back to see his parents, and stayed involved with his high school network for all of his life.

Alan attended Cornell University on a Regents scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He served as President of the Mu chapter of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity, and kept in regular contact with his fraternity brothers. Alan earned his Master of Arts at Johns Hopkins University, where he also met his wife of 47 years during a flag football game. He continued his academic work at Carleton College and the University of California-Berkeley.

Alan worked as a financial advisor for 35 years and was a founding member of the Legacy Group Inc., a financial firm in Towson, Maryland. In his later years, he was deeply devoted to the Kiwanis Club of Towson-Timonium, where he served as financial advisor and president.

His interests encompassed battleships and Thucydides, baseball and Tchaikovsky. Mickey Mantle, Friedrich Hayek, and Jacques Barzun were among his many heroes. He loved reading, intellectual debate, and the written word, and shared this love warmly with all around him. His veneration for the American experiment, the liberal arts college, and the breadth of human endeavors infused his conversations and brought him abiding satisfaction and gratitude. Always surrounded by books, he inspired a deep love of learning in his children and grandchildren.

He was always armed with a corny joke and cultivated silliness of all sorts, especially with little ones. He fiercely loved his grand-dogs: Cosmo, Félix, Pepper, and Ajax.

Alan's greatest joy was raising his family with Connie and basking in the glow of the families they are raising in turn. He spent countless hours going through photos and cataloguing his most treasured memories, which grew fonder with every recounting. His love and support were unconditional and self-effacing. Above all, he made sure we all knew how happy and grateful he was for the life he and Connie built together.

A memorial service for a celebration of Alan's life will be held at a date to be determined.
