ALAN R. FORNEY May 1, 1947 – October 6, 2017 Alan R. Forney, 70, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Altoona, passed away Friday at St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon after a brief illness. He was born in Olean, NY., and was the son of the late Robert T. and Lila L. (Aughenbaugh) Forney. Alan is survived by his three children: Ryan P. and wife, Yolanda, of Charlottesville, VA., Tara N. Apgar and her husband, James, of Bayville, NJ., and Sean C. of Bayville, NJ. He is also survived by the love of his life, Marie Trent, of Pittsburgh and son James Trent and wife, Betsy, of Cincinnati, OH; as well as seven grandchildren: Angelina Forney, Alexa Forney, Jimmy Apgar, Colin Apgar, Anna Apgar, Braxton Trent, and Kazley Trent; a sister, Carol Fellinger, and husband Mike, of State College and a brother, Ronald Forney, and wife, Nancy, of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Robert "Bo" Forney, of Altoona. Alan was a 1965 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. and Point Park College in Pittsburgh. He received his Master's Degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he also served as Assistant Track coach. Alan was a U.S. Army combat veteran having served from 1966 – 1968 as a member of the 218th Military Police Company stationed in Nha Trang and Tuy Hoa, Vietnam. He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and worked many years in sales in the grocery and food service brokerage industry. Alan was a member of the St. Winifred Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon. He was an active runner and a former member of the West Penn Track Club, Jake's Pennsylvania Health Gym, and Mt. West Chestnut Athletic Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to a variety of oldies music, and attending athletic events. He was an avid sports fan and supporter of all Pittsburgh teams. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at The Stevens Mortuary, 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2716 Broad Ave., Altoona. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
