Alan was first of all a gentleman,then a scholar, then a humorist, and then a policy wonk. He had the ability to see humor in people and situations even while dealing with important and serious subjects. It was fun to work with him. And he had a great smile that will remain in our memories.

Alan was a gentleman, first, then a scholar, then a humorist and then a policy wonk. He was fun to work with and he had the great ability to see humor, apply it to himself (and others) all while dealing with really important and serious work.
