Not sure what to say?

Al, You hired me to DMV as a student assistant and then as an entry level attorney. You were one of the few who recognized that despite my disadvantages as a newcomer to the country I might have some potential. You counseled me and guided me whenever you had a chance. I am forever indebted to you and I hope I did not let you down. Thank you for friendship and your confidence in me. Rest in peace.

Al was my boss back in the '70s at DMV's legal office, when I was a wet-behind-the ears lawyer. I learned SO much from him that held me in good stead for the next 30 years. Al, you were bright, a character and a good mentor. My deepest condolences to friends and family. Al, Rest in Peace.

My grandpa has truly been the greatest motivator in my life. From supporting and encouraging my education, to being a tremendous example of success, he helped me become who I am today. I love him with all my heart and already miss him greatly.

"Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you."
~ Aldous Huxley

Words cannot express the sadness that we feel when he heard of Al's passing. It was an honor having to help him in his time of needs and he's not only the best employer for Rodney and I but a true friend. He treated us with love and respect at all times. We missed you Al more than you ever know, thank you for all the good times that we have shared in Arizona, Monterey and not forgetting Clearfied Way. We love you Al always and you will never be forgotten.
Rest In Peace Big Al and...

My deepest sympathies to all the Mateer family,
I have so enjoyed being a part of family activities all these many years and will miss Alan greatly. He was a warm, generous man who I admired and always enjoyed being in his company.
Love, Charly

Al was a great guy and great Golfer. We always enjoyed having him in our tournaments. I competed against Al and it was always a good hard fought battle. He will be missed.

Al you were a true gentleman and a man to whom I will always remember and look up to. I will always treasure the times we shared on the golf course. Rest in Peace Alan

Big Al was bigger than life and he was such a great guy. I will always cherish the time I got to spend with him....Sharon Hill, Placerville, CA
