As a friend and colleague, beginning during our overlapping years at Cornell and into our extended careers at Lehigh, I offer my thanks for his extraordinarily high standards in life and profession, but always with a large measure of humanity and humor. He will be greatly appreciated and remembered.

Dr. Pense and I got to know each other while working at Lehigh's ATLSS Center. He always had interesting topics to talk about and was willing to help anyone he could, from delivery drivers to those needing his expertise in metallurgy. It was an honor knowing him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I received my B.S. in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from Lehigh in 1978. Dr. Pense was a favorite professor. When I reflect on my dealings with him I realize how patient and kind he was with an intelligent but immature and underperforming student who was still trying to find himself. I respected him greatly. I offer my condolences to his loved ones and friends.

My caring expression to the family of Alan for your loss. I recall Alan from EEC during my childhood. He lived a remarkable life with many lasting contributions. May remembering his good life bring you comfort.
