I am sad to hear of Alan´s passing. Happy memories of our friendship in Brixton. Beverley Williams (Baker)

I was very sorry to hear of Alan's passing. Alan had a tremendous influence on my decision to continue in physics at Auckland after completing my BSc, and he was a valuable guide and mentor, always with much kindness and wisdom. He leaves a remarkable legacy in physics and through the many students whom he taught and inspired.

I was very sorry to hear of this news. Alan was my MSc advisor at Auckland in the mid 1980's and was instrumental in defining my subsequent career in physics. I greatly admired his intellect, charm, and wit. My most heartfelt condolences to his family.

A splendid person, much admired, from a rugby teammate of our Wadham College team of 1961

Dear Marcia and family We were very sorry to learn of Alan's passing. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the memorial service yesterday and regrettably it's been quite a few years since we last met. Our connection, as distant cousins, of which we're very proud, goes well back and I always remember hearing that my Grandfather bought his cattle from the Poletti family in Bell Block, which would have been early last century. Alan's passing has prompted us to revisit your book, Marcia, and...

So sad to hear this evening of our cousin Alan's passing. So many happy memories especially of our Christmas's all together at Brixton. Poletti's, Green's, Rowe's, Sampson's and Giddy's . Our thoughts are with Alan's family. Ross Giddy New Plymouth & Velma La Roche (Giddy) - Stanmore Bay Whangaparaoa.

Saddened to read of Alan's passing. Have not had contact with him since about 1951 but remember Alan on his first day at Waitara District High School 1949 I think. Cadets week - as was usual in first week of the new school year. Teacher Cliff Crossman, resplendent in his lieutenant officers uniform asked "What is your name Lad" and Alan replied A.R.Poletti Sir. 'Arp' became Alan's nickname for a while. He could not be called 'Poley' as that was the name we called his brother Graham, a...

Dear Marcia, Steve, Nick, Tim and Marcia My condolences to you all of Alan's passing; so sad. I must apologise for being unable to attend his farewell and celebration of a life so well lived and loved. Arohanui to you all over this time of tears, laughter, organisation, exhaustion and the love of family and friends. XX

Bruce and Carole Wickes send their condolences. We had planned to attend but tested positive today so best to keep away. We hold many happy memories of our interactions with the Poletti family. We are thinking about you at this difficult time.
