Alan Raphael hiking in Presidential Range NH, mid-1970s
We worked together in Boston in the 1970s, young civil engineers building nuclear power plants. On weekends, a group of us would go hiking, white water canoeing, snowshoeing and winter camping together in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Alan enjoyed the outdoors and was always a great friend to have on these trips. He could handle his canoe well in wild water and big boulders, called the dumplings, where others sank their canoes!!!

I remember Alan well. We lived 4 houses from each other on Oxford Street and attended many of the same classes in Jr High and High School.
My thoughts of comfort, grace and peace go to all of his family.

I first met Alan in Junior High School. I was a new kid, a transplant from the South and a new neighbor. Alan befriended me and though I have long been out of touch with him I have never forgotten him. From the comments here it looks like the shining boy went on to become a shining man. My best regards and condolences to the family.
