Alan J. Steinmetz, age 69, of Rhinelander, died on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, with his family by his side.
He was born on March 29, 1952, in Rhinelander to Peter and Marion (Cook) Steinmetz. Alan attended schools in Rhinelander graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1970.
He was a lifelong resident of Rhinelander, who was known and loved by many.
Alan owned and operated Steinmetz Landscape Design for the fortieth year with his kids working alongside of him.
He had a real love for all his family, the company, and his travels.
In 1999 Alan opened Kristi's Family Salon which had eleven employees. This is where he met the love of his life, Karen. The couple were married on October 7, 2000, in Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida.
He lived a many faceted life, working many hours in his business, but having time for dancing, traveling, especially to Cabo San Lucas, golfing, UTV rides, snow skiing, snowmobiling, spending time at the hunting cabin in Enterprise and his love of music.
He enjoyed playing the guitar, piano and singing. He also enjoyed “family band night” which included dinner. Some of Alan’s favorite music groups included Jimmy Buffet, the Eagles, Chris Stapleton and Tracy Byrd. Some of Alan’s and Karen’s favorite songs were by Chris Stapleton entitled, “Starting Over”, Tracy Byrd, “Keeper of Stars” as this was their wedding song and Lonestar, “Amazed”.
Alan will be remembered for constructing his brick driveway with all the family participating!
He was a member of the Cabo Church, In Touch Ministries and the Rhinelander Country Club.
He was a past member of the Rhinelander Lions Club, NRA and bowling and pool leagues.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen; his six children, James Steinmetz of Rhinelander, Jason (Leticia) Steinmetz of Milwaukee, Kristi Steinmetz, Jesse Steinmetz, Katarina Kolpack all of Rhinelander and Logan Kolpack of Antigo; three grandchildren, Aaron Steinmetz, Bentley Frahm and Asa Elias Steinmetz; six sisters, Phyllis (Terry) Helgeson of Rhinelander, Linda (Patrick) Fochs of Cherokee Villa, AR, Mary (Grant) Johnson of Minocqua, Sharon Brooks, Janette Steinmentz, Carrie (Roy) Rasmussen all of Rhinelander; three brothers, Michael Steinmetz and Jeffrey Steinmetz both of Rhinelander and Peter Steinmetz III of Billings, MT and his former wife, Terri Fritz (Tim) Ripp of Rhinelander. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, James and his two beloved dogs, Missy and Riley.
A Celebration of Alan’s Life will take place, in the summer.
