ALEMAN
Albert Thomas Aleman, Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather, was called home to our Lord on Tuesday June 18, 2013. Albert was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Aleman, his parents, Alfonso Sr. & Adelaide, father-in-law, Fernando Esparza; brothers Miguel, Leonard and Alfonso, Jr., Aleman and sister-in-law; Beatrice. Albert, a San Antonio native, was born on December 21, 1941. Albert lived a full life of consuming passions that encompassed family, church, and community. A devout Catholic, Albert attended St. Phillip of Jesus Catholic School, Central Catholic High School and St. Mary's University. Albert was knighted by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, as a Knight of St. Gregory in 1977 at the age of 35, an honor given for outstanding service and commitment to the Catholic Church. Albert's devotion and involvement to the Catholic Church enabled him to advise Archbishop Robert E. Lucey, Archbishop Francis J. Furey and Archbishop Patrick Flores during their pursuit of social justice among workers in San Antonio. He was successful in obtaining the first pension plan approved by the IRS for the Catholic Priests. A successful Life Insurance agent for many different companies that included Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance, Security Life of Denver, and Pilot Life. He was a consistent member of the Million/Multi-Million Dollar Round Table throughout his insurance career. The second eldest of nine brothers, Albert never forgot the neighborhood where he grew up alongside his brothers and stayed active in the southside community. Albert served on many civic and non-profit boards especially those that targeted the youth of San Antonio; the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) being one of his favorites. Along with his brother Al, he owned and operated Aleman Food Service (AFS) where he served as Vice President. AFS in its prime was a multi-million dollar company that offered full food, dining room, and delicatessen food services to the military. Albert is survived by his wife of 52 years Martha Esparza Aleman; sons & daughters and their spouses, Albert "Buddy" & Annette, Michael & Tracey, Michael & Kathy Aleman Gomez; grandchildren; Christina E. Aleman, Alexandria N. Aleman, Aaron T. Aleman, Nikolai Aleman and Elaena Aleman; mother-in-law; Markolfa C. Esparza; brothers, Lawrence, Adolph (Minerva), John Richard (Christina), James, and Michael (Rose) and sister-in-law Joanne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Aleman family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to all the medical staff and especially CHRISTUS Sister Mary Hospice Center for all the care, respect and friendship they shared with Albert. Visitation will begin on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 6:45 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 P.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, June 24 at 10:30 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II. Martha & Family:
On behalf of the IWBS Sisters at BSA, I send condolences and prayers. I especially remember going to the Aleman home on Monday Night Football to watch the games with you all when I taught at BSS. The Aleman brothers were so funny and all of you made us welcome!
May his legacy of caring and giving spirit continue to guide you and encourage you in the days and months ahead.
May Al rest in God's eternal peace.
