Albert J. "Barney" Barnett

BARNETT, Albert J. "Barney" - Of Flint, age 95, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A private memorial service will take place at a later date. Barney was born in Clinton, Illinois on March 20, 1908. He was one of 11 children of Edward and Lena Barnett. He married Nellie May Cowing on November 4, 1933 in Homewood, Illinois. After retirement they lived in Arkansas for 8 years, then lived in New Port Richey, Florida for 10 years. Barney moved to the Flint area to be near family, after the death of Nellie May, in 1991. He was an avid card player, fisherman, gardener and he especially loved telling jokes. Barney was employed with the Illinois Central Railroad for 50 years. Surviving are 2 daughters, Janis Jeffris of Chicago, Illinois and Tamra (Howard) Schultz of Swartz Creek; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Jeffris and husband Doug Hanrahan, Paul Jeffris and wife Karrie, Laura Jeffris and husband Greg Simonian, all of Chicago, Martha Crawford of Grand Blanc, Lucy (Norman) Hightree of Chicago; 7 great-grandchildren, Jane and May Hanrahan, Kira and Paul Jeffris, all of Chicago, Hillary, Timmy and Mallary Crawford all of Grand Blanc.
