Allen, Jr., Albert F. “Bert� passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011. An avid, consummate horseman, he is best known as the owner and breeder of the multiple stakes winning horse, “Miracle Wood�, 5th in the 1986 Preakness Stakes and as the most passionate fan of Colonial Downs Race Track, named their racing ambassador in 2007. He will be remembered for the countless teens he taught horsemanship and life skills at his Warwick Stable farm in Varina. He was also a veteran of World War II. He is the former proprietor of Allen Auto Service on the Boulevard in Richmond. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Jane. He is survived by daughter, Hillis; son Ferris; grandchildren, Donald, Bradley, Jane, Finnigan and great grandson, Wyatt. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Wednesday, January 12, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue where services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, January 13. Interment will be at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Don McBeth Disabled Jockeys Fund, P.O.
