Albert Calloway Obituary
April 13, 1928 - January 30, 2026
Raleigh, North Carolina - Albert Hanes Calloway passed away peacefully on January 30th in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Concord, NC on April 13,1928 to the late Walter Earl and Atha Howell Calloway; the 6th of seven children.
Albert graduated from Concord High School in 1945 and received a BS in Commerce in 1949 from the University of Chapel Hill. Following his service as a Corporal in the US Army, he returned to Concord and purchased his father's grocery store and opened two more. In 1962, he sold the stores, moved to Raleigh and began a 30-year career in Economic Development for the State of NC. He was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1972.
Albert and Lorine married on August 10, 1958, and were together 67 years. They moved to Springmoor in 2010.
Albert is survived by the love of his life, Lorine Kanoy Calloway; three children: Karen Marie Calloway (Marisel), Emily Calloway Geerdes (Bradley) and Albert "Hanes" Calloway Jr. (Jill); four grandchildren, five beloved great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on February 7, 2026 at the Springmoor Auditorium in Raleigh with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Springmoor Endowment Fund (which Albert directed for over 35 years) or to the First Baptist Church of Raleigh (where Albert held multiple leadership roles for over 60 years).
