Albert “Gene” Eugene Hart, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. A proud veteran, devoted father, and cherished companion, Albert touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and quiet strength.
Born in Springfield, IL on May 1, 1943, Albert served during the Vietnam era, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he welcomed his first child, Joanna, with his first wife, Barbara Hart. They shared 20 years of marriage and raised three children: Joanna Hart (Steve Skarpa), Rebecca Hart (Dave Mefford), and Brian Hart (Laura). He was a proud grandfather to Jordan Dailey, daughter of Rebecca; and Amanda Hart and Angela Hart, daughters of Brian and Laura.
Albert built a successful career with Sears, where he held management positions in both Grand Rapids and Bay City, Michigan. Then, later in sales in St. Louis, Missouri. His professionalism and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Later in life, Albert shared a long and loving marriage with his second wife, the late Marilyn Hart, embracing her grown daughters Becky and Vickey as part of his extended family. Albert and Marilyn often traveled to Germany to visit Becky, her husband Ingo, and their two children, who affectionately called him “Opa.”
Albert is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Linda Carlson, with whom he shared many joyful years. Together, they created countless cherished memories, especially during their holiday getaways to Big Cedar Resort in Branson, Missouri. Overlooking the serene waters of Table Rock Lake, they spent peaceful mornings on their balcony, often visited by curious squirrels who became familiar companions during their stays. These moments of quiet connection and natural beauty were among Albert’s most treasured.
He is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Robert Meador, whom he grew up with in Springfield, Illinois. Their bond remained strong throughout the decades, a testament to enduring friendship and shared history. Albert’s children lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Bob,” a title that reflected the deep affection and connection they all felt. Bob’s wife, Linda, was in the same graduating class as Albert, and together the two couples shared many fond memories and milestones over the years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Hart. Albert is also lovingly remembered by James’s wife, Susan Hart; James’s children, Jerry Hart (Annie) and Cid Hart; and Jerry’s children, Tristen and Grayson-who, like so many family and friends, looked forward each year to Great Uncle Al’s homemade caramels, a sweet tradition that brought joy and connection to all who received them.
Albert will be remembered for his deep devotion to family, his service to country, and the quiet joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.
