Al was an amazing man! I enjoyed calling him Brother in the Masonic organization. However, I enjoyed playing the horn with him in the Shrine Bedouin Oriental Band more. He was so patient in working with people like me, teaching us the correct way to play the notes, listening for the rhythm, and just appreciating the joy and entertainment provided for the observers. I always enjoyed flying with Al. Unfortunately, it seemed like whenever we flew together on the 880, something would go wrong. Fortunately, we would always find a way to resolve the problem. We just seemed to work well together. Many good memories of flying with a great pilot.

Unlike some of those crusty old captains we knew in Houston Al was a joy to work with. He set a competent but friendly tone in the cockpit. Al always asked for his coffee to be a "half a cup of coffee" but to break the monotony one day he asked for a "half-a-coff-of cuppee".
