Albert Knudsen

Al contacted me in May 2009 and I was able to put him in contact with his friends from the 99th Infantry Battalion, D Company. He really appreciated this. The Norwegian Government yesterday approved the World War 2 Participation Medal for surviving 99'ers, and Al was on the list of those that would have been receiving this medal in May this year in Washington DC. He would really have enjoyed this proud moment. I wish it could have happened for Al.

My mother (in Texas) called me to tell me about this lovely and engaging tribute to Albert Knudsen that was in the Dallas Morning News. I hope you will accept my condolences, as well as my appreciation for giving so many of us (unknown to you) a glimpse into the joyful lives you shared.

A fascinating, loving story -( read it only because our son married a Knudsen from Bergen recently) - Al and Fita obviously raised a lovely daughter. We are very sorry for your loss, and mourn with you a wonderful human being.

Definitely the passing of a great man that is the classic statement of America's Greatest Generation. He truly represents all that is great about mankind. A huge loss to his family but the memories are priceless.

Kristl and Doug, I instantly recognized the picture of your folks. It brought back wonderful memories of Fita and your dad. They were incredible people, and you've done them great honor with this story. I remember our times together and am thinking of you. Praying for peace and joy in the reuniting of Al and Fita. A man of great faith.

So sad to hear of the passing of a great guy - and as I have learned by reading his obit and letter to his brothers, a man of many dimensions, great insight and much faith. He will be missed by many.
My prayers are with his family and all those close to Al.
