God, family, business, community, fun. Words, in that order, which Albert J. Koegel strove to live by. He was born on August 14, 1926 in Flint, Michigan to Anna and Albert Koegel, immigrants from Germany. At age two he toddled across the street to meet a newborn baby, Barbara Lee Gerholz, who...

Not sure what to say?

Mr. Koegel was a true Flint icon. Every time I'd see him he was always smiling, relaxed and laid back! Flint lost a true gem. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to meet, sit and chat with him. To the Koegel family, thank you all for sharing Al with Flint! Marty Embry

I'm going back to when the Mckays had 5 markets in Flint, that I worked for Donald Mckay, in which his dad Harold and Al was friends, along with being working associates. I heard nothing but positive stories from that era of retail with Al (Mr Koegel) as I began my career in retail... I moved on from and IGA in Goodrich to managing Meijers and Costco's meat department from my beginning of learning the trade of butchering..The name Koegels do bring back great memories , with along the dynasty...

Hardly a day goes by that I don't think about my Rotary Brother Al and are weekly lunches. A drive down Flushing Rd or in the Westgate Subdivision are reminders of our deep and abiding friendship. Al was one of a kind, his wife Barbara and Family and the endearing legacy of Koegel meats will always be a shining example of their Community Service. Sing well my friend in Heavens Choir.

Thank you to Al, and to the whole Koegel family for all you gave to Flint. I'm so proud of our parents' generation - how hard they worked and played, how they loved us, how much they each contributed to their communities. Anne, Kathy, Jane and John, your dad was such a positive force in my growing up - your mom, too! I'm so sorry for the loss you all must feel. But aren't we lucky to have had our parents as role models?! Love to all of you, Ann

John, so very sorry to hear of your father's passing. What a great man and a great life he led. There isn't anyone who has had any ties to the city of Flint in the last 100 years whose life hasn't been touched by Albert in some way, shape or form. May God bless him and your entire family. Mike Billings

John and family, Sorry to hear of your fathers passing. What a life he lived and legacy he left for all of you. My prayers go out to you and your family.

sorry for your loss ,sending prayers to the family remember stopping by the Koegel house to meet up and then walking to Mckinley junior high school

John, I met your dad twice- once in 1984 when we trekked from Albion and stayed at your house, and again in 2002 when the Keller Thoma attorneys toured your plant. But in just those two meetings I got a sense of the dynamic, caring and worldly man who was your father. My sincerest condolences. The greater the man, the greater the loss. I hope for you that the pain fades soon and you cherish the memories forever.

To Kathy and the entire Koegel family. Sincere condolences. He was a pillar of Flint. Prayers for peace for the family and the knowledge that he had a life well lived. Carol (Bruce) Gage
