Even after all these years after Dr. Labriola's death, I still miss him: his scholarship, his excellent teaching, his prodigious memory, the speed at which he responded to emails or requests for a recommendation, and his friendship. I received my Ph.D. because of his guidance and support. Each spring as we prepare for the English Festival at Duquesne University, I remember that we are at this site because of him and his request to the administration to use the university as a site. Now, 26...

With great sorrow I received the news of Al's death, an unexpected shock, as I knew that he was still professionally very active. I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, family, friends, and colleagues.
I was first Al's student in 1971, in Shakespeare's Comedies (Shakespeare also being one of his great specialties). Al was pivotal in my choice of an academic career in literature (although in grad school I eventually switched from British to Italian, and from Shakespeare and...

I was saddened to read of Al's death in the latest Central Catholic Alumni magazine. I was a junior there when Al was a senior. We were in the same Latin class. At the time I was very impressed with his intelligence and work ethic. Yet, despite this, he was always friendly even to those of us who were a year behind. Over the years I have followed his career and, while never surprised, I was always impressed. This is a great loss to our alumni, Duquesne and Pittsburgh. He and all of his...

Dear Labriola Family,
I just learned of the Dr's death today through Duquesne.
I remember him as one of the smartest men I've ever met. Drove me to learn Milton. I will miss him greatly.

Dear Regina and the Labriola family,
I am shocked and saddened to have just learned of Dr. Labriola's passing. He was truly a great man--a gentleman and a scholar. A dynamic teacher, his lectures always captivated me.
For many of us, myself included, Dr. Labriola was the Teacher You Remember Forever. He not only brought great intelligence and great compassion to the classroom, he also brought out the best in his students.
I am honored to have known him,...

Please accept my sympathies on the loss of your loved one. I was a student of Dr. Labriola in spring 1971, his first year at Duquesne. I was balancing the teaching of English at Peabody and taking the grad level John Milton course. On reading of his death I pulled the text book from the shelf to read over the entries. The price sticker $8.75 (for what is now listed as $60) remains along with countless insights from the remarkable professor. I smile and delight in the memory of having the...

I had Dr. Labriola for one graduate class in 1998. He was so elegant and intelligent, and yet so warm and encouraging - his class was one of my favorites and I always stood just a bit in awe of him. I still have a letter he wrote to me about a class presentation that had gone well. The fact that he wrote to each student after the presentations only emphasizes what so many others have written here - he was truly a great man and a great professor, and we are all better for having known...
