Spinelli - Ricciuti Funeral Home - Ansonia Obituary

SEYMOUR: Albert Angelo Poeta, age 92, entered into eternal rest on July 14, 2022, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Frances Yoia Poeta.
Albert was born in Derby on April 22, 1930, son of the late Luigi and Mary Paradisi Poeta. He was a graduate of Ansonia High School class of 1948. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served his country in Korea in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
A resident of Seymour since 1963, Albert was employed as a union carpenter for CT Carpenters Union Local 127 in Derby, and later Local 99 in Bridgeport until his retirement.
Al had a kind, caring, and outgoing personality. He was very funny and so much fun to be around. He loved socializing and having company drop by, and there was always a car in the driveway. He was very blessed to have many friends and family who adored him and visited often.
He was very proud of his Marchegian Italian-American heritage. His hobbies included cooking and eating Italian food, listening to Italian music, playing amazing bocce (and horseshoes and corn hole) in the yard, as well as going out for the time-honored ‘Tuesday morning breakfast with the brothers’, then ‘the guys’, which continued for years up until last week. He also loved watching football, especially his lifelong favorites the NY Giants, gardening, going to Mohegan Sun Casino, doing his crosswords, word searches and sudoku, and feeding and watching the many birds and squirrels in his backyard. Most of all, he loved being anywhere and doing anything with those he loved, including his 4-legged family members.
Al was a devout and faithful communicant of Holy Rosary Church where he was a member of its Catholic Men’s Club and Bocce League, and volunteered at their annual Italian Festival. Every Sunday morning following Mass, Al met his extended family and friends at Duchess restaurant for their weekly breakfast club.
He was a member of the American Legion CT Post 0024 in Derby, and was also a member of the former Beaver Street Athletic Club in Ansonia.
He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
In addition to his loving wife of 63 years Frances, Albert leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children, Wendy Poeta-Tisi of Shelton and John J. Poeta (Dorie) of Seymour; grandchildren, Ryan P. Tisi of Seymour and Cara M. Poeta of Seymour, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 5 brothers, William, Victor, Louis, Joseph and John Poeta, his sister, Norma Biondi, and his cherished granddaughter Nina T. Poeta.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday July 20, 2022, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street  in Ansonia. On Thursday, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, meeting directly, at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with United States Air Force military honors will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby. Contributions in Albert’s name may be made directly to: The Nina Poeta Scholarship Award Fund c/o the Valley Community Foundation, 253-A Elizabeth Street, Derby, CT 06418 or online at www.valleyfoundation.org.  To sign Albert’s guestbook or share a memory, please visit, www.spinelliricciutifh.com.
