Not sure what to say?

As a young reporter at the Midland Reporter-Telegram in 1986, I was very fortunate to meet and get to know Al when he was district attorney. Midland was a popping town for news, always, and Al was always fair and open and as helpful as he could be under the circumstances. I saw him frequently in those days and remember fondly he would only call me by my last name. Last year we were able to reconnect and talk about a particular case from the old days - it was wonderful to see him at home in...

Loyal friend Straight shooter Texan to the core He gave his all

Schorre, as we called him, was a great guy. I worked with him at the law firm, and when I needed help with a divorce, - even though that was not his area of law - he was right there offering to take care of everything for me with good advice and friendship. After I left the firm and he was District Attorney, I had an odd situation come up with a now defunct airline. When I got home, I found that my suitcase had been opened and some of my possessions were missing. After I'd called the...

Being a Bailiff for the District Courts it was my pleasure to work around Al and protect him if need be. He was an excellent attorney and a great storyteller. He was very good at trapping a witness into saying what he wanted them to admit. I will miss Al as he was only 10 days older than me. Ronald T Bearden

Al hired me to work in the DA's office in 2000. Best decision I ever made. 25 years later I am still here. He still called occasional to check on the office and me and how things were going. He always had a smile on his face and was always interested in how you were doing. He is going to be greatly missed. Prayers and condolences to all of his friends and family.

A great man. Loyal forever!

AL was a great lawyer, wonderful person, and dearly loved person by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. God Bless Al and his family in this difficult time,

Al was a true friend to everyone he met and had a smile that was always upbeat. He was fun to work with in the courtroom, his ability to work the courtroom was awesome. Great to meet outside the office. Best boss ever

Once I was in a jury pool and part way through the voir dire our District Attorney, Al, asked for a "reshuffle" of the candidates. Either side can make that request once. Afterwards I asked him why, and he told me, with his characteristically warm smile and "ah shucks" manner, that the defendant was an attractive woman and there were too many young men in the first few rows of the jury pool. He was one-of-a-kind and always put me in a better mood.
