Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory-Quincy, CA FD306/CR57/INS0742146 - Quincy Obituary

Affectionately known as "Al the plumber", Albert Johnston Winchenbaugh peacefully passed from this life under the gracious care of those at Country Villa Healthcare of Susanville, CA, Saturday evening, September 20th, 2008. A native of Waldoboro, Maine he was born June 18th, 1930 to the late Basil and Doris (Burrows) Winchenbaugh. He has been a resident of Chester, CA for the past eight years moving here from Applegate, CA where he had resided for eleven years prior. The family moved to Applegate from Redwood City where they had resided for twenty nine years. A plumber by trade, Al owned and operated his own business in both Redwood City and Applegate. First and foremost though, Al was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who would always find time in his busy schedule for his family. He gained great pleasure in sitting for his grandchildren. Al enjoyed the freedom of flight as a private pilot as well as bowling with his wife. His trade as a plumber made him well known as "Al the plumber" a nine ball specialist. He won numerous tournaments throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento regional pool halls. Al was a longtime member of the Three Great Lights Lodge No. 651 of the Free and Accepted Masons located in Menlo Park, CA. In passing Al leaves his loving wife; Evie, whom he married July 1st, 1950 in Rockland, Maine, sons; Alan and wife Sue, of Woodland, CA, Barry and wife Heidi, of Applegate, CA, daughters; Elaine VanderWal and husband Leslie, of Redwood City, CA, Judy Oneto of Chester, CA, brother; Conrad "Buddy" Winchenbaugh of Rockland, Maine, and the joys of his life, his eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was anxiously expecting his second great grandchild in March. Along with his parents Al joins in his eternal home his sister Louise. Masonic services will take place at the graveside in the Chester District Cemetery 1:00PM Friday, September 26th, 2008. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at www.fehrmanmortuary.com. The family suggests any remembrances in Al's memory be made to the Sacramento Shriners Childrens Hospital c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 803 Greenville, CA 95947.
