One need not look too far to understand what it takes to make a good community even better. The importance of volunteer organizations and neighbors devoted to our youth programs became apparent to us with the recent passing of Albin D. Nevius.

Dear Dave, I am deeply saddened by the news of your father's passing. I am a firm believer that for whatever reason, when it's time, it's time. The higher power that put us here to do what we have to do takes us back when we have completed our mission in life -- however great or small. Having said that, it's still not easy dealing with the total void that is left when a loved one passes on to whatever comes next for our souls.

Having coached and administered in the Lawrence Junior Baseball/ Softball Association for several years, I always had great respect for Dave Nevius. He continued to serve young people long after his children were grown. He was always respectful and encouraging to the children he coached. I will always remember him as a self-effacing man who gave a lot to his community and served as a role model for many young people.
