GROVETON

ALETA B. “AUNT PETIE“ (CUSHING) HURLBUTT, 82, of Cottage Street, Groveton, died Friday January 16, 2004 at Week’s Memorial Hospital, Lancaster after a lengthy illness.

Born June 8, 1921 in Groveton, NH a daughter of Guy W. and Minnie E. (Smith) Cushing, she was a lifelong resident of Groveton. She was valedictorian of Groveton High School, class of 1939. She was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Club, the Grange and the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at Week’s Memorial Hospital and Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center. She used to be a reading tutor at Groveton Elementary School; taught Sunday School and Vocation Bible School. Aleta also was an avid golfer.

Before retiring in 1982, Aleta worked for the Groveton Post-office and Peoples National Bank for a short time and then for many years as a mill worker for Diamond International and James River Paper of Groveton.

Aleta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lorna and Chris Aldrich; her son Brian Hurlbutt; two grandchildren Breanna Ashley Marie Hurlbutt and Seth Michael Aldrich all of Groveton. Many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Raymond D. Hurlbutt on July 21, 1995; one brother Robert Cushing and one sister Shirley Cushing.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday January 18, 2004 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Main-Armstrong Funeral home; 59 State Street; Groveton. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 19, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Groveton United Methodist Church; 1 Church Street; Groveton, with Rev. Peter Parent, pastor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Aleta’s name to the American Cancer Society; Gail Singer Memorial Building; 360 State Route 101; Suite 501; Bedford, NH 03110-5032.
