Sorry to hear of Alex's passing. We as a family have fond memories of going to his studio in Halibut Cove. My children remember the different pieces of art on the shelves. They were amazed at the method of payment. Where else in the world could you take an object and leave the money in the jar. It sounds like he died doing the things that he was passionate about. That is indeed a gift. Blessings to all of you!

My mother taught and worked with Mr. Combs. She had the highest respect and admiration for him and his art. His contributions to the students of the Alaskan art world will live for generations, as will the memory of his gifted teaching.

I had the pleasure of being in the Combs home several times in high school and found Mr. Combs to be a warm & comfortable man.

He was kind enough to dance with me at our Junior Prom at Dimond High, which I'll never forget. He was so skillful and elegant; he made this awkward young girl feel as though she were floating and so very special!

My condolences to the family - it is always too early to have our parents leave us. Special hugs to my friend, Jon.
