Alexander Louis Martinson, 84, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 27, 1933 in Norwich, NY to Adeline and Alexander Martinson Sr. He grew up in New Rochelle, NY and in 1962 married Marie Penzine, also of New Rochelle, who pre-deceased him in July 2014. They lived in Larchmont, NY and shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised their 4 children, Julie Brophy (husband Brian), Susan Martinson, Diane Broderick, and Richard Martinson (wife Karen) and their 8 grandchildren, Lorraine and Sean Brophy, JJ, Danny, Anthony and Nicole Broderick, and Andrew and Maddux Martinson. As an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, 1952 – 1956, he served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the County of Westchester for many years, and was honored as the Grand Knight at the Knights of Columbus in New Rochelle. Alex was an avid baseball fan, and adored his beloved team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He'll be remembered for his beautiful smile, his love of animals, dancing, poetry, gardening, and artistic talents, especially painting. He was a kind and gentle soul, and a giving husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 12th at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5655 Stadium Pkwy, Melbourne, FL 32940. A reception will follow at the same location. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in Alex's name as this organization was near and dear to him.
