            Alexander Rankin, V, of Bedminster Twp., PA, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at his home.  He was 91.


            He was the loving husband of 66 years of the late Joanne (Sittig) Rankin until her passing on December 10, 2022.


            Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Alexander IV and Marie (Gears) Rankin.  A 1950 graduate of Calumet High School, Chicago, IL, he attained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1957.


            Following his graduation from high school, Mr. Rankin proudly served with the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955 having been stationed Stateside during the Korean War and attaining the rank of Corporal.


            He began his professional career with Firestone Tires and notably was on the team that invented radial tires.  Then, he owned and operated Vulcan Spring Manufacturing, Telford, PA, for over 50 years until his retirement.


            Mr. Rankin was a member of Re:New Bible Church, Perkasie, PA, where he sang in the Church Choir.  He was a former member of the Hilltown Baptist Church, Hilltown, PA, where he also sang in the Church Choir and served on the Deacon Board.


            A former member of the Hilltown Township Zoning Board, Mr. Rankin was former member and Past Chairman of the Board of the First Service Bank.  He also was a member and Past President of the Spring Manufacturers Institute Board.  


            Additionally, Mr. Rankin produced the Broadway production of “Amazing Grace”.  An antique car collector and “goose chaser”, he enjoyed dancing and playing the piano.


            He is survived by two children, Heather R. Doherty and her husband John, of Telford, PA, and Scott Rankin and his wife Sharon, of Dresher, PA; six grandchildren, Gwenaviere Woodall and her husband Joshua, Bonnie Gregory, Karah Davies and her husband Benjamin, Alexander “Alec” Rankin VII, Rob Rankin, and Melanie Rankin and her fiancé Hunter Tremaine; four great-grandchildren, Harper and Medea Gregory, and Ellis and Henry Davies; a brother , William Rankin and his wife Vivian of Chicago, IL; and a sister, Lesley Judson and her husband Phil, of Gurnee, IL.


            His Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Re:New Bible Church, 1600 N. Fifth Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

Being a former resident of Elephant Path, one of my favorite memories of Alex is him hightailing it down the runway in his Viper! He did love his cars! Such a wonderful man he was! The world is a smaller place without him in it!
