Chief Warrant Officer Scott Coulter was "a good all-around guy _ the best of the crop," in the words of his grandmother. Coulter, who grew up in Bristol, Tenn., and was stationed at Fort Hood, was killed Nov. 17 when his vehicle struck a homemade land mine on the way to Baquoba, Iraq. Coulter, 35, was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He joined the Army in 1987 after graduating from high school and had served in Somalia, Bosnia and Operation Desert Storm. Coulter met his wife, Robin, while both were stationed in Germany. They were married 12 years. He had two daughters, Shenna and Hannah, and a stepdaughter, Cindy. Family and friends had been hopeful that Coulter would remain safe. "He said he was doing all right, and that he didn''t have to go out real often," said his grandmother, Mrs. Stuart Coulter.

Happy Birthday Chief!! XOXO

Chief,

I often think back on the leaders that I looked up to...the ones that formed my foundations as a young private. You're always in those thoughts as a great trainer, mentor, and friend. I still strive to be as committed and level-headed with troops as you. Godspeed to your family. You're not forgotten.

Please know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten. On Saturday May 23 I was honored to read the names of Tennessee's fallen in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars at a ceremony in Washington DC at the WWII Memorial. Alexander Coulter is remembered.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you...

To the family of CWO Alexander S. Coulter:
Alexander gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

I am TN Coordinator for the Home of the Brave Quilt Project (there is a coordinator in almost every state). We provide a quilt, free of charge, to families of our fallen soldiers. These are replicas of the quilts given to soldiers during the Civil War. I would like to contact this soldier's family, but have been unable to do find any information. If anyone can help me, please contact me at [email protected]. It would be an honor to provide a quilt in his memory. Thank you!

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest...
