Haverford, Pennsylvania
Haverford, Pennsylvania
Alexander V. Sarcione Esq. 86, of Haverford, died Saturday, November 3rd, peacefully in his sleep. Mr. Sarcione was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Upon graduating Cum Laude from Classical High School, Alexander received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated from the Academy in 1949 and was stationed in Germany as part of the United States occupation force tasked with rebuilding Western Europe. After completing his service commitment to his country, Alexander began a career with his father-in-law in the jewelry business. After 10 years, he embarked on a different career path and attended law school, taking classes at night. Alex graduated from Temple Law School in 1963 and worked in the office of Chief Council for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The hallmark of his career was playing a key role in the construction of the Blue Route, supervising all litigation for the State of Pennsylvania. Alex was highly respected within the legal community and considered an expert in eminant domain law. He was a long time member of the Lincoln table at the Union League and the Justinian Society of Philadelphia and Overbrook Country Club. In addition, he was most instrumental in the founding of Widener Law School, formerly known as Delaware Law School, where both his sons graduated. Alex received many awards and honors from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but he took the most pride in the successes of the many young attorneys whom he hired fresh out of law school, and mentored throughout their careers. Still, family was the most important thing in Alex's life. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed life with his wife, Nancy of 63 years, his two children, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, especially at the family beach house in Ocean City, New Jersey. He embraced every opportunity to spend time with his family. Simply put, Alex lived his life for his family and as patriarch of his family, he will surely be missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy C. (nee Castiglioni), his son, Hon. Anthony A. (Janet) and his daughter, Jackie (Paul) Ryan; his siblings, Felix D.D.S. and Gloria (Louis) Sciolto, both of Rhode Island. Also his 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Thursday, Nov. 8th at 10 AM at St. Denis Church, Eagle Road and St. Denis Lane. Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. Friends may also call Wednesday, from 6 to 9 PM at the D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008.
