Alexander WESTPHAL

Alexander Jacob Westphal, age 20, of Cheshire, CT died Thursday December 24, 2009 in a snowboarding accident in Killington, VT while on vacation with his family. Alex was born on October 7, 1989 in Brookings SD and was the son of Ann and Ryan Westphal. When Alex was 10 months old the family moved to Nashville TN. He lived in Nashville for 7 years and then moved to Portland OR in 1997. He loved living in the great northwest and going to the ocean and the mountains. Alex has lived in Cheshire CT since 2000 and graduated from Cheshire High School in 2008. Alex spent his freshman year of college at Hofstra University in Hempstead NY and had joined the SAM fraternity. He was looking forward to starting his training in audio engineering at the SAE Institute in New York City in January 2010. Alex lived life with passion, always fully committing himself to his family, activities, and friendships. He loved to play and create music and often described music as his 'art form' to express his creativity and emotions. He was an athlete that excelled in many sports including snowboarding, baseball, basketball, football, motocross, cycling and weight lifting. Alex was an honor student and a model in New York City. He loved hiking in the woods with his dog Zena and volunteering for animal shelters. Alex brought sunshine and joy to people with his smile, laugh, and sense of humor. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Ryan and Ann, as well as very special grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. INTERMENT East Side Cemetery Estherville
