Frye Funeral Home, Inc. Obituary

Alexis Popp Herron of Washington, formerly of Finleyville, entered heaven on Monday September 7, 2020. She passed away unexpectedly at the age of 72, at the Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills.

Lexi was born on November 18, 1947, the daughter of the late Alex and Rosemarie Kennel Popp, grew up in Finleyville and attended the First Presbyterian Church. Lexi graduated from Monongahela High School class of 1965. She met her husband Rodney on the first day of school at Edinboro State College, where they both graduated as teachers in 1969. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year, having exchanged vows on March 21,1970. Lexi continued her education receiving a master's degree in education from California State College in 1972. Mrs. Herron taught at Bethel Park Middle School for 35 years, was an award winning teacher, and very proud of her students.

Lexi was known by her family as vivacious and caring. She loved fast, sharp, cars. She also enjoyed crocheting lapghans for pet shelters and nursing home patients, playing piano, and family celebrations of all kinds. Lexi loved vacationing in Florida, tending her kitties, coloring and crafting- including porcelain making and sewing dolls with her late mother.

Above all, Lexi cared for others with a fierce sense of loyalty and love. She was a devoted wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend.

Cherishing many fond memories are her husband, Rodney Herron; siblings, Patty and husband Bob Leyshock of Greensburg, Kim and husband Eric Wick of Karns City, Bob and wife Alexis Popp of Imperial; and brother-in-law, Hugh "Scooter" and wife Susan Herron of Mercer.

Aunt Lexi loved and supported her nieces and nephews, Matt and Becca, Tyson and Dax Leyshock, Sean Leyshock, Alex D. Popp, Justin Wick, Adam and Catherine Wick,
Christina and Kyle Fisher, Nichole and Michael Patrina, Kyle and Stephanie, Josilyn and Aubrey Herron.

Not sure what to say?

Rod, I am so very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I don’t know if you remember me but I was the physician from New Castle that used to come down to your NASCAR store in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. I have thought of you and Lexi often throughout the years. God Bless my friend.

Glenn D. Miller M.D.

Our hearts go out to you Nubby, Patty Jean. Kim, Bobby and families as well as the Herron and Popp families. Words cannot begin to express our sorrow. I will always hold close the memories of working with Lexi and our sisters on the Popp family reunion a few years ago. She was so creative, energetic, smart and fun! I will miss my cousin, friend and Facebook buddy. She will always be in our hearts.

Mrs. Herron was one of the first teachers I met the day I started Middle School in 1973. She was young, pretty, gum chewing, and drove a red Corvette. She was respectable, but RELATABLE to young people. I have great memories of her. My condolences.

Oh, my ... what a loss for the world. Lexi sure knew how to fill a room with her wonderful energy. I have a memory of the first time I saw her after she and Nubby got the new red truck. It just might have been big enough to hold all her energy! She came to make fairy gardens with her sisters, the sisters book club girls - and me and my young sons. What a fun day we all had. Know we'll keep on praying!! This past summer Lexi was part of a photo challenge I was in with her sister Kim. ...

Sincere sympathy to Nubby and the Herron family. I spent many years in the halls and classrooms with Lexi. Certainly sad to have a teaching colleague pass well before time.

Alexis and I graduated together, and were neighbors. I am still in shock over this. Nub and families have my deepest sympathy.

We were close friends and cousins for 70 years . See you in heaven in the future.

Our love and sympathies to Nubby and to Lexi’s beautiful family. She will be so missed and will live on in everyone’s hearts and memories.

Rodney & family. I want to extend my deepest sympathy. I met you when Alex Popp passed away. I was a Monongahela police officer.
