Not sure what to say?

Dr. Holguin was my friend and mentor as a graduate student in public health. I came to the program from the US Public Health Service in Chinle, Arizona. Dr. Holgiin had a distinguished career with the PHS himself, but I didn't learn until after I graduated that he had worked in Chinle in his own career. Similar backgrounds aside, he related personal stories to me that convinced me that I would do well in life given my serious medical limitations that had plagued me for decades. That...

I met Dr. Holguin (Al) when I first came to work on public health along the Texas-Mexico Border over 20 years ago. always listened to him carefully... lots of respect for him... such a great prescence. And great hair! Best wishes.

So sorry for your loss. I first met Dr. Holguin while I served as the Florida Border Health Education and Training Centers Statewide Administrator. A giant in public health....

Dr. Jessie R. M. Legros

I am so sorry for your loss. Dr.Holguin was one of my mentors in graduate school and a man I have channeled numerous times throughout my life since those years in San Antonio. He shared his passion and dedication to public health, community, and family in every conversation. He helped me explore and develop my own passion and create my professional and personal path. The world is a little darker without him, but I know his light shines bright within all the many lives he touched.

Dr. Holguin was my mentor, friend, and colleague. Many a common man is alive today because an uncommon man made a heroic dedication of his life to public health. His legacy will survive and it will continue to improve our lives. I wish you safe harbor, my friend.
