Not sure what to say?

I still consider you as coach to this day. I will never forget what you said to all of us about sports building character. I could not pull myself away from reading all your comments. True Hackettstown names.

My heartfelt condolences to the Applegate family. Coach had such a strong impact on all of us, so that very much like transplant recipients, those "parts" of the past will live within all of us for the rest of our lives. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that he had such a positive influence on so many people who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts & prayers are with you. God Bless.

Sass was my teacher,my coach, and my freind.I will never forget him.My condolences go out to Lil,Chip, and Darryl.Ed Sutton Class of 1967.

Mr, Applegate,
I'm so sorry for your familiy's loss. You were indeed a stalwart in the community, respected, admired, revererd, and relied upon. Our relationship was stormy, at best. I know I was never one of your favorites, but I must say that I respected you. We had our moments Sass. I miss Morrison field, the smell of the grass and the gear, the fish ponds, the HHS band marching to the field, the concession stand that was attached to our field house, the crunch of the gravel, the pine...

My heart goes out to the Applegate Family.Coach was a great influence in my life as a Coach and later on as a friend. So many memories of HHS revolve around Sass Applegate. For Lee, I know it is about the "Golden Toe" and football. For me, it was his PAD classes. Our condolences to his family. Lee and Pat Sutton

Sass was our PAD teacher in 1963. In the summer of 1968 I had the honor of working with Sass at the Sandbar. He was in charge, I was hired to teach swimming. On a very hot day in June, one of the kids dove off the left side of the dock and hit his head on a large rock that had been exposed during dredging of the river. He was dazed, with blood running down his face. Clearly a dangerous situation. We couldn't budge the rock but Sass had the solution. He moved the floating raft over the...

Coach,

To have lived your life and know that people will always remember you with respect is all that one can hope for. I will never forget you, nor will the Tiger State Champs of 1970.
