Alfred L. Cahn

Alfred was a good, loving man. He and my mother, Miriam Ben-Shemuel, were lucky to have found each other and shared some joy.

He was a kind and gentle man and very patient as a teacher. I was a terrible piano student but enjoyed our times together. He gave me very good advice--if you want to go to Carnegie Hall, buy a ticket and don't quit your day job! I am so sorry to learn of his passing.

I am sorry to hear of "Mr. Cahn's passing. me and my two brothers took piano lessons from Mr. Cahn in the late 1950's while we lived in Shorewood. We all remember his kind and gentle presence and the stick on stars he would bestow upon us at the completion of our accomplishing a lesson. The world works in mysterious ways-it has been 55 years since I attempted to locate Mr. Cahn's whereabouts, only to reach out to the JCC yesterday and learn of his passing.

Dennis, so sorry to learn of the loss of your dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Same scenario, my piano teacher who talked with an accent. He was a professional teacher. I didn't do well. I had 7 years of Mr. Cahn's teaching the classics. Me and then to Peggy Brill who became a pianist.

To my dear friend and mentor Alfred...you will sorely be missed, but not ever forgotten in my lifetime. In the 20 years of time in which we came to know each other were always cherished...even the piano lessons; which I was never good at preparing for. But you did not ever scold me for that...too much...and instead you preferred to be my friend and just shared your own experiences in life along with your beautiful music. All of it was very special to me. Thank you. Thank you for a life well...
