Not sure what to say?

As we approach the 10th anniversary of Fred's death, I remember him as a mentor and supporter of the research that my wife Joanna M. Heal MBBS MRCP and I were doing in the 1990s. He also gave me my first post-residency job in the Connecticut Red Cross. A very quietly passionate and principled physician who made everyone around him better by his presence. My sympathies to his family, who were the ever present love and commitment during the time I knew him. Hail and farewell.

I knew Freddie from the time he went to Swarthmore College, through Medical school in Philadelphia. He was very shy and a good friend. I saw him several times back in the Bronx when he was at Einstein. Fred was a great dancer. He was of high moral character and very ethical. Am happy he had a nice family and accomplished what he wanted in his career He and I would have had many discussions today about medicine.I'm 85 years old.

It is hard to imagine that so much time has passed, and I only now learned of Freds passing. Such a sad loss. He was a wonderful man and you were a terrific couple. Your friend from college...Michael

I just heard about Fred's passing. Like others, he opened new doors for me at Red Cross which allowed me to expand my skills and career. A great boss and an even greater person. I am so grateful for his presence during my lifetime.

I am so saddened by Fred's death - he was a great mentor and good friend at ARC Headquarters. He will be missed. Barbara McKeever-Peoples

Kathy and I thought that the funeral service was perfect. Comments from Fred's sister, brother-in-law and daughter were moving. Dick Schubert, President of American Red Cross while Fred was there, sent a condolences message from Switzerland which I gave to Debbie.

It is comforting to know that at such a difficult time you can pray for comfort and God will help you.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Fred's passing. He helped me launch my career in Transfusion and was clearly a mentor for me in my early years at Yale. He was always helpful and remained a good friend as the years went by. I will always remember his support of my work and his enthusiasm and leadership for the work he did at the ARC in CT and at National. He helped save the lives of literally thousands of Connecticut patients who never knew his name, but owed their lives to his ensuring that...

My sincere sympathy for your loss. May our Heavenly Father give you strength and bless you with peace during this difficult time. Psalms 29:11
