Mr. Alfred Herman Kleiner, 92, of 105 Friend St., Adams, died on Friday morning, January 11, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Adams on December 1, 1915, a son of the late Henry and Henrietta (Wolfrum) Kleiner. He attended schools in Adams. Mr. Kleiner was a Veteran of World War II having served with the United States Army as a Sergeant in a field artillery unit in the European Theater from February 6, 1941, until his Honorable Discharge on November 30, 1945. Mr. Kleiner worked as a Foreman for the former W.R. Grace Co., Adams, retiring in 1979 with 33 years of service. While employed there, he was responsible for overseeing the making of the world's largest print blanket, which was 312 feet long and 7611 inches wide. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of the Adams Post 160 American Legion, and the W.R. Grace Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, mushrooming, and traveling. Some of his favorite vacation spots were Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, New Zealand, and Europe. He had also gone on several cruises, including the Panama Canal. He was fortunate to have shaken Pope John Paul's hand twice while in Rome with Father John Chwalek and his tour group. He is survived by his wife the former Josephine K. Schultz, whom he married on April 11, 1942. 1 Son - Alfred Herman "Chuck" Kleiner, Jr. and his wife Coralee of Manchester, NH. 1 Daughter - Patricia A. Lennon and her husband David of Cheshire. 5 Grandchildren - David J. Lennon, Jr. of Adams, Debra Ann Abbatiello of Austin, TX, Daniel P. Lennon of Adams, Kathryn Dickinson of Minneapolis, MN, and Timothy A. Kleiner of Manchester, NH. 12 Great Grandchildren- Shannon, Erin, David Alfred, Patrick, Mackenzie, Shaelin, Collin, Keira, Briana, Madilyn, Olivia, and Shawn. 1 Brother - Paul Kleiner of Adams, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 6 Brothers - Henry, Walter, Gerhardt, Emil, Max, and Otto Kleiner, and by 2 sisters Esther Herzog and Ella Genesi. The funeral will be held on Tuesday January 15, at 9:00AM from the PACIOREK Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Monday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, or to Adams Post 160 American Legion, through the funeral home.
