Alfred Leapold Malabre Jr.

I remember Alfred as a very cordial and warm neighbor in Quogue, and I will miss seeing him on the driveway. He had a long, full life, and that is all any of us can ask for.....For the remainder of my life, I will remember him kindly.

I met Alfred in 2009 on the golf course in a tournament hosted by the United States Seniors' Golf Association. It turned out to be an important day in my life. He became my friend and mentor over the next 16 years. There was no finer gentleman. Alfred had an impressive academic background followed by an even more impressive career with the Wall Street Journal. Always loved seeing Alfred in constant quest to get out on the golf course. Sharing in those shared love of sports , mine being tennis, always value the continual challenges in wanting to get out there. He always did it with a big smile. Connie Jones

Although our ages and backgrounds were worlds apart, we shared a few things in common. We were both Navy men, with a reverence for the written word and the game of golf. I'm gonna miss our chats at the front gate of Yeamans Hall and his sharp eye when proofreading a poem, or short story before I sent it off for consideration. Fair Winds and Following Seas my friend.
