Fred was a good friend of my family, especially my father Jack Streidl. I saw Fred many times through the years, but he would call me just to talk after my father passed in 2012. We always had long, interesting conversations. I was so thrilled to know what a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat he was! He was informed and fierce. I wish he could vote in this current election.

I knew Fred as one of my father´s closest friends. They had so much in common as Yooper´s, teachers, coaches, fathers, story tellers and card-players. Fred was good to my dad and drove to Plainwell to sit at our walnut dining room table to play pinochle with a group of four, weekly for years and then twice weekly once my mom passed and my dad didn´t get out much. I knew Fred mainly as one of my father's closest friends. They shared so much in common: teaching, coaching, being Yoopers, enjoying a good drink, story telling, and of course, card playing. Fred always had high spirits and made everyone he spoke to feel like the most important person in the room. He was smart and well informed on whatever he spoke about. I played 3 sports he coached, with basketball being my speciality. He was tremendously bright with great discipline. He was the first coach at SHS to win 3-4 district basketball tournaments. Also the first ever to win their first Regional, and Quarter final game, making theState Semi B.B. finals. That team went on to finish with a 21-1 record. He was always fair to me and encouraged me to go into teaching and coaching. I did tha t for 4 years and moved into Administration for26 years. I...
