Lloyd remained actively involved with her alma mater, supporting various programs. She held jobs in Washington, New York City, and Milwaukee before her marriage in Milwaukee to her husband Sam. Lloyd built a successful career as a volunteer fundraiser for more than a dozen causes throughout her lifetime, including Board positions at the Junior League of Milwaukee, Riveredge Nature Center, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, the United Performing Arts Fund, War Memorial Center, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Visiting Nurse Association, Women’s Club of Wisconsin, Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy - Door Peninsula, Saint John’s Communities Foundation, and Door County Land Trust Advisory Board. She also served as a Trustee and Elder of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee to which she belonged as a member since 1942.
In the 1980s, Lloyd assumed positions in fundraising for the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Blood Center of Wisconsin Research Foundation. Due to her unfailing dedication to community efforts, in 1978 she received the William C. Frye Award by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation in recognition of her stalwart commitment to making Milwaukee a better place. She has also been recognized with the Society of Fundraising Executives Scott Cutlip Award for professional distinction as a fundraising executive.
Lloyd made an immeasurable difference in the lives of those around her, especially her family. A devoted wife and mother, Lloyd never missed an opportunity to show care and support for her loved ones. Her enthusiasm for life served as an inspiration for many. Lloyd will be remembered for her wit, discretion, sense of humor, and dedication to any and all service she took responsibility for.
Lloyd and Sam enjoyed 15 winters in Tucson, AZ and more than 40 summers with family in Door County, WI. Lloyd especially loved golf and tennis. She was a sailor from a young age, and taught her family members “the ropes.” In her later years, Lloyd so loved and appreciated her caregivers and friends at Saint John’s on the Lake that she founded the Lloyd Lewis Fellowship Fund to provide scholarships for aspiring health professionals.
