Alice Banach

December 1, 1915 – August 10, 2013

A life well lived – filled with love and laughter

Alice Banach, 97, of Scotch Plains, NJ passed away on Saturday, August 10. Alice was born and raised in Newark, NJ, where she attended Central High School and Drake Business College and worked as a bookkeeper.

She met the love of her life, Ralph, in 1941 and was married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1942. They spent 47 joyous years together living in Nutley, Livingston and Irvington, NJ before settling in Scotch Plains in 1965. Her beloved Ralph predeceased her in 1989.

Alice had a quick wit and tremendous sense of humor. She was a longtime active member of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood YMCA where the staff and friends looked forward to seeing her and hearing her joke of the day. Her kind and thoughtful ways will be missed by all as she always remembered a birthday or special occasion with a card or call. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching old movies from the 30's and 40's with the ability to name all the actors. She and Ralph also enjoyed many pleasant trips to the jersey shore.

She is survived by her loving and devoted children, her son Les and his wife Grace of Hampton, NJ and her daughter Vicky Banach of Scotch Plains, NJ.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carol Banach, Linda Salvacion of Hampton, NJ and John Banach and his wife Katie as well as her great grandson, Matthew Banach of Phillipsburg, NJ. "Aunt Alice", will be missed and fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Alaine Angelbeck and Bill Nicholaus of Belford, NJ, Jack Hodge of Long Valley, NJ and Roland Ptak and his wife Sue of Scottsdale, AZ as well as numerous relatives, friends and neighbors.
At her request, services will be private.
