DERBY: Alice T. Giannone Swinski, 91, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2016, at Bishop Wicke H.C. in Shelton. She was the beloved wife of Joseph J. Swinski Jr.
Alice was born in Derby on June 27, 1924, daughter of the late Guerino and Philomena Toni. A lifelong resident of Derby, she was employed at the former Ansonia Manufacturing for many years. Following her retirement, she was a teacher's aide at Prendergast School in Ansonia. Alice was a devoted communicant of St. Jude Church in Derby where she was a faithful volunteer at Bingo each week. She enjoyed an active social life of Saturday night dinners and dancing and enjoyed traveling on cruise ships. She was an avid fan of UConn Women's Basketball.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Sergio Toni (Patricia) of New Haven, a step-son, Joseph J. Swinski III (Grace) of Cranston, RI, step-daughters, Sharon Ardito (Anthony) of Northford and Linda Swinski of Derby, step-grandchildren, Walter Ardito of North Haven, Nicholas Ardito and Lilian Ardito of Northford, Christopher Ardito (Kelly) of Wallingford and Olive Swinski and Ivy Swinski of Cranston, RI and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank M. Giannone and sisters, Olga Fasciano and Evelyn Livolsi.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday February 28, 2016, from 2-5 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, her funeral will be held at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Jude Church in Derby. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Church, 71 Pleasant View Road, Derby, CT 06418 or through the funeral home. I was saddened by the news of Aunt Alice's passing. I'll cherish all those great meals in the downstairs kitchen and her tips on making my own Porketta. May you find strength in the Lord and fond memories to get you through these most difficult times.
