Not sure what to say?

I remember Alice from when she was a part-time instructor at Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne in the 1970s and early 80s. She was a vital part of our then still unofficial Women's Studies program. She was one of a group of about 10 of us who drove in a van from Fort Wayne, IN to Lawrence, KS to attend the first National Women's Studies Association conference. Such a creative and dedicated teacher! R.I.P., Alice.

She was a caring and thoughtful boss and good friend. I unfortunately have not been in close touch since I moved back to Waukesha, but I have always been in awe of her abilities as professor, mother, and all around person. So sad to get this news.

Hays/Gillam Family;
My thoughts and prayers are with you in the difficult time. Alice was a teacher of mine and I recall many evenings spent at her east side home with pot luck dinners and gatherings while we honed our skills and made plans as to what the next literary adventure would be. She was truly an amazing person and her wit, skill, compassion and energy will surly be missed.
