1915-2008 Alice Donovan Harrington, passed away peacefully, Wednesday night at Claridge Court Assisted Living Facility where she had been a resident for several years. She was four months shy of her 93rd birthday. She had a long and wonderful life. Alice was born in Kansas City, MO on July 19, 1915 to Roy and Edith Donovan and was a life long resident of Kansas City. She attended Notre Dame De Sion High School and attended college at the University of Arizona where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sister. She was married for a brief time to John Rush in the early 1940's. On December 7, 1941 she witnessed and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. In 1946 she married the "love of her life", John Harrington and shared the next 45 years together until John's death in 1991. Alice and John had three children, Jay, David and Anne, who they raised with much love, encouragement and support. Alice had many interests including traveling, tennis and playing bridge with her beloved bridge club group. Alice was a 50 year member of the Indian Hills Country Club and a long time parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Prairie Village, KS. Surviving Alice family members are a son, Jay and wife Tracey Harrington of Overland Park, KS; a daughter, Anne and husband Mark Maronde of Lexington, KY; a sister, Mary Baggot and husband Tom of Carlsbad, CA; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith Donovan, her sister, Dorothy Lusk, Jr., and her son, David Harrington. The family would like to thank the staff at Claridge Court for caring for Alice in her final years. There will be a visitation for Alice on Monday, March 31, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at Muehlebach Funeral Home.
