Not sure what to say?

Alice was my father's first cousin. I recently wrote a history of the Whalley and related families, which includes many references to Alice and her parents and siblings. I would be happy to send a pdf copy to any Holcomb family members or their descendants that request it. Rosalie Holcomb has a copy she can forward, or email me.

Hurrah for Alice. What a wonderful, spunky lady. Many of us Wheaton Alums appreciated her loyalty and enthusiasm for our college! She will be missed. My heartfelt sympathy to her family,

Alice was a valued member of the Seattle Wheaton College community. She attended all our local gatherings, bringing her wonderful smile and spirit. Always young at heart, and possessing an intellectual curiosity, her wisdom enhanced our community. The Seattle Wheaton Club mourns her death and sends condolences to the family.

Dear Grandmother,
This is your Grandson, Mark, I would like you to know how much you're loved by myself and my family. Imagine being 101 years old and now Grandmother, you get to celebrate your 102 birthday with your family and friends that I know you have missed so much and for so long. No doubt it will be a grand day for you. Well Grandmother, with a tear in my eye I say goodbye for now, and with a smile on my face, I know I will see you again. Enjoy yourself Grandmother I will be...

Although the Holcombs rightly claim her, Alice was also the heart of the Whalley family. She attended my parent's wedding in 1938, our wedding in 1968, and our son's wedding reception in 2000. She was the star at our holiday parties. What a joy to have her with us so many years.
