Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Alice Lorraine Kurka composed her own obituary many years ago. She had a clever wit, and her family had a good laugh when first reading what she had written for herself, and wanted to share part of her "selfie" obit as...

Not sure what to say?

It's good to remember this wonderful woman once again. She left a strong legacy. A favorite memory is watching Alice skillfully chop the head off a huge fresh halibut on her kitchen table and the next day chop up the enemy's antics in prayer. She was a mighty force to reckon with. A woman of her word who met every challenge with the Sword of the Spirit and won!

Dearest Alice,
The first time The Lord brought us together was in 1971 when you and Ralph and Dick and I were baptized in the Holy Spirit at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. The next time was when Women's Aglow was begun and I was called to be on the Board with you, Naomi, Mickey, and Mary, all of whom have preceded you to Heaven! What a welcome you must have received when you arrived! :)) Our Aglow planning meetings were always wonderful prayer and praise sessions. You, and they,...

So sorry to hear of Alice's passing. I'm keeping your entire family in my prayers through this difficult time. So glad I was able to get to know Alice during all of her visits to Long Lake in Waupaca!

I have so many memories of Alice. Most have to do with her strength, love of Jesus, and her great pride in her family. I loved her laugh, her sense of adventure, and her vision. I really believe she saw way beyond what the rest of us saw. She was my teacher, my friend, my leader, and a trusted confidant. She was so sure of Heaven, and I know she is there right now, waiting in the great cloud of witnesses for the rest of us! Prayers of comfort and shared grief as you adjust to her being gone...

Alice's son, Jim Kurka, was my teacher in the 5th grade, and I have fond memories of Alice as my Mother's close friend. Alice was always a delight to be around, we enjoyed receiving her Christmas letter to friends and family every year! My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Jim, Marsha and families, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, even if it is Mrs. Kurka's gain. No words can help with your grief, but please know that your friends care and are praying for you.

I remember Alice well from the 70's when we lived in Alaska. Great lady - now 'aglowing' in her reward!!

Alice was a vibrant and adventurous woman and I am certain she is having some amazing times in heaven. Blessings to the family.

I love you, Mom and I always will. I look forward to seeing you again someday. I'm so glad you are with Jesus, David and Cedrick Eustace. Love, your daughter, Kathleen
