Not sure what to say?

My friend and I arrived in Portland in summer 1967. We were two students from England travelling around America on Greyhound buses. Alice´s mother Fanny had been my grandmother´s bridesmaid in Ireland. Fanny´s mother was my grandmother Rose´s sister. So we arrived and were warmly greeted by Alice and her brother Harry and their families. My memories of Alice are happy ones and she was really good company and despite being busy made sure we had a good time. I send my most heartfelt...

A life well lived! Sorry to miss the memorial. Virtual hugs to you David, Sarah, and Andrea.

Wonderful Alice - she was one of the few people who knew my mother Joy Greenberg Turtledove, who took her to see the original GONE WITH THE the WIND when she was about 10 years old and who told me she taught her to tap dance - she was a wonderful personality and I will miss her so much. Sending much love from me and my son and daughter-in-law Gregg & Caroline Wooden and grandchildren Kalie & Christopher and great grand children Arthur and Ethan. Love Cousin Cyndi

Alice was our warm and welcoming host when Peter and I came to Portland for Roger's birthday. It was a great way to get to know her. She and I kept in touch afterwards occasionally and I always enjoyed it.

I so admired Alice as a model citizen of Planet Earth. She set the example for one and all as an ethical person who walked her talk. May we all strive to be more like Alice!

Really nice obituary- captures the essence and contributions of Alice so we may remember her.

DEAR DEAR DARLING FRIEND. WHAT A GIFT OUR FRIENDSHIP HAS BEEN. YOU WILL BE MISSED.

Alice was committed to living a life of ethical excellence, modeling for me and her rafts of friends committed action in the interest of social justice. I knew her best, however, as a mother. I had the good fortune of teaching her bright and engaged children; her commitment to them and to their schooling was absolute. She was a mighty force, and her legacies will long be remembered.

Beyond all her amazing accomplishments, Alice was a funny, loving and supportive friend. I will carry her with me always.
